Is voting an important responsibility of a citizen?

Voting is a historical process, in which a small group of men had the privilege to take important decisions. Around the world, after many years and fights by the marginalized population, they weren't fighting just for the right to vote, but to have the same rights and opportunities as others. Historically we have the case of the suffragettes or the movement of the Afro-descendant population.

An interesting fact is that the first country to approve the female vote was New Zealand in 1893 and the last country to allow the female vote was Saudi Arabia in 2015, there is a difference of more than 100 years.

What I mean, is that obviously, the vote is part of a democratic system in which the population can elect their representatives, but we must not forget the sacrifices and lives of the people who helped us get to where we are today.

To reflect, I would like to tell you about the Afghan case, women were able to vote earlier than in the United States and were able to participate in the creation of their constitution in 1964, but after Afghanistan went to war in 1979 and the Taliban movement took control of the country in 1996, women still don´t have the right to vote.

  1. Hi :) It's incomprehensible that voting for women took so much time and in some places they still don't have the right. They need the right because they live in the country where they are voting it's just as simple as that
